We have mostly heard that sleep is very important for us and specially for the kids proper amount of sleep is very essential, during their growing age.

For kids proper sleep is equally important as healthy food and exercise are. Sleep helps kids in their physical and mental growth. Throughout the day kids do a lot of physical and mental labour, going to school, playing, sports, doing their homework etc and many other works due to which they get tired and their body needs rest. Proper sleep helps kids to relax their mind and body. Studies says that those kids who take proper sleep regularly have better concentration power, memory, behaviour, balanced physical and mental growth.


What happens if kids have improper sleep patterns?

Improper sleeping patterns can create negativity in kids and they tend to get irritated often. The kids who don't take proper night sleep face disturbance in their behaviour. Kids find it difficult to get up in the morning and they also feel tired throughout the day if they don't sleep properly at night. Improper sleep also leads to lack concentration in kids and weak immunity which can be a cause of various diseases.

How much sleep is important for kids?

Every kid has a different sleeping pattern, some sleep more at night and less during the day and some tend to sleep more during the day. That depends on us that how we have set the schedule/routine for our kids. How many hours a kid should sleep depends on their age.

0 - 3 Months Infants : 15 to 16 hours a day
3 - 12 Months Babies : 14 to 15 hours a day 
1 - 3 Years Toddlers : 12 to 14 hours a day 
3 - 5 Years Kids : 11 to 13 hours a day 
5 - 12 Years Children : 10 to 11 hours a day   

Make sure that your kid gets proper sleep. Setting a proper routine from the early age will help them do things timely and will help them to be more systematic. You can narrate them stories or sing the songs to make them sleep this will help them to learn various stories and strengthen your bond with your little one.

Maximum growth of organs takes place while your child is asleep. Sleep also helps children to relax their mind and brain development.

2. Repairs cells

Sleep helps in the repair as well as development of new cells in the body. This further helps in muscle and bone development.

Proper seep helps to create a balance between diets and therefore prevents from overeating temptations in kids. 

4. Develops healthy mind & improves immunity

While sleeping kids relax their mind and recover from all mental stress which they have gone throughout the day which further helps in the development of their memory, concentration, as wells as it also helps to fight various diseases by boosting immunity.


5. Sleep reduces injury risk

Kids are often active and it is really difficult to keep an eye on them all the time, so sleep helps to avoid all the risks of injuries which they can get while they are awake.


Parents should make sure that their kids have proper sleeping routine according to their age as it is very essential for their development. As a parent you can help your child to set a proper time table for various activities including their sleep.
